KENYAN ROSE FARM

the Rose Farm - Kenya

Kenya is the third largest exporter of cut flowers in the world & accounts for around 35% of all cut flower sales in the EU. The flower industry in Kenya began in earnest in the 80s & grew rapidly during the 90s. More than 500,000 people within the country depend on the industry and it has blossomed into a multimillion dollar industry.

There are more than 60 flower farms in the Naivasha basin, employing more than 50,000 people, most of whom are women. Approximately 4450 hectares around Lake Naivasha is covered by irrigated farming and the farms have been blamed for the declining water levels of the lake.
