HEATH CARE - AFGHANISTAN - ARETE Stories
Visited remote areas in north Afghanistan documenting medical outreach programmes.
In conjunction with SPANA, a UK based charity, doctors visit remote areas in north Afghanistan where health services are limited. Many pregnant and sick women are unable to reach a health centre and so doctors visit different villages providing basic health care and education. SPANA is a UK-based charity dedicated to improving the welfare of working animals such as donkeys. With the support of this charity a donkey saddle has been developed to help women travel across difficult terrain comfortably when pregnant and reach clinics in order to give birth safely.
